EFSA statement on MOSH/MOAH in food - key facts

The Standing Committee (SCoPAFF) of the EU Commission (Section: Novel Food and Toxicological Safety) published a Joint statement of the Member States regarding the presence of Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbons (MOAH) in food in April 2022. This should ensure a uniform enforcement approach for the EU. After various queries from associations in particular, a supplementary clarification of the statement was made in the minutes of the SCoPAFF meeting in October 2022.

At the end of July 2020, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) received a mandate from the European Commission to update the Scientific Opinion on Mineral Oil Hydrocarbons in Food. The public consultation on this EFSA opinion has been running since 15 March 2023.
